Update to Overflow School Designation for New Connaught School Kindergarten to Grade 6 Students
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to inform you that Ramsay School and Earl Grey School have reached their capacity and will be unable to accommodate additional students overflowed from Connaught School. Wildwood School will now serve as a third overflow school to accommodate ongoing enrolment growth in the Connaught School boundary for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year and beyond.
Effective immediately, all new kindergarten to Grade 6 students who cannot be accommodated at Connaught, Ramsay, or Earl Grey Schools will be overflowed to:
- Wildwood School - located at 120 45 Street SW Calgary, AB
This includes all students who have submitted registration for Connaught School through SchoolEngage for the 2023-24 school year and have yet to receive confirmation of acceptance and all new registrations that are received from today onward.
No Changes for Current Students at Connaught School, Ramsay School or Earl Grey School.
All students designated to Connaught School and currently attending Connaught School or overflowed at Ramsay School or Earl Grey School will be able to remain at these schools, provided they do not move out of the designated attendance area.
Why is this change happening?
In a notice dated Sept. 9, 2022, we informed families in the Connaught boundary areas of changes to the school boundary and of a new overflow to Ramsay School for all new kindergarten to Grade 6 students who could not be accommodated at Connaught School.
In a second notice dated March 6, 2023, we informed families in the Connaught boundary areas of a second overflow to Earl Grey School for all new kindergarten to Grade 6 students who could not be accommodated at Connaught School or Ramsay School.
Since then, enrolment has continued to increase as more families move into the Connaught School boundary, and Ramsay School and Earl Grey School continue to be at capacity. Establishing a third overflow at Wildwood School will allow balance in enrolment between Connaught, Ramsay, and Earl Grey schools and will help keep students at schools that are as close to home as possible.
We are exploring solutions to address the high enrolment at Connaught School and will provide another update by the end of this calendar year.
How does a call-back list work?
If space becomes available in Connaught School throughout the school year, that space will be offered to students on the call-back list currently attending Ramsay School, Earl Grey School, or Wildwood School. Their overflow school will notify them if a space becomes available. Students remain on the call-back list while they attend the designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the Connaught School boundary or transfer from their designated overflow school.
Any new registrations received for the 2023-24 school year will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration. The lottery process will be followed for kindergarten to Grade 6 for the 2024-25 school year and beyond. For more details on how we determine priority, please visit our website.
We will make every effort to keep siblings together at a single school. Families with a new kindergarten to Grade 6 student who cannot be accommodated at Connaught, Ramsay, or Earl Grey Schools and who have a sibling who is already attending Connaught, Ramsay, or Earl Grey Schools should contact the sibling's overflow school to determine where they are on the priority list and if there are space and resources to accommodate all siblings. Alternatively, all siblings may be accommodated together at Wildwood School for the 2023-24 school year and beyond.
How do I register for the 2023-24 school year?
Any new registrations from students within the Connaught School boundary must still register for Connaught School through SchoolEngage. Once these registrations have been received, student information is transferred to their newly designated overflow school, Wildwood School. The student will be added to the call-back list based on priority. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.
Transportation for students attending the designated overflow schools.
Students are eligible for transportation to their designated or overflow school if they live beyond the walk zone. Overflowed students will receive transportation to and from school once the family submits a transportation registration and it is processed.
In the CBE and across the city, we are experiencing a school bus driver shortage that may impact the mode of service provided. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to restore reliability to transportation services. Visit Busing & Transportation for more information, or to register for transportation, visit MyCBE. Alternatively, families may use a paper form that is available on our website.
