All students have access to the internet. Students use ipads, ipods, laptops and stand alone computers as tools for learning. It is expected that all students follow the rules and guidelines for use of CBE networks, email, software and internet sites. Parents of students who choose not to follow expectations will be contacted and may lose the privilege of using CBE networks, devices and or tools for learning.
Admirable Use of Digital Technology Policy
2024-2025 School Year
At Connaught School we will ensure the safety of all students by following the three principles of respect when working with educational technology. This will ensure that we are using digital information and technology resources in a responsible way:
1. Respect Yourself
- Keep your CBE account passwords and other personal information private.
- Tell your teacher if something on an electronic device makes you feel uncomfortable or is inappropriate.
- Caring for a personally owned device is the responsibility of the owner.
2. Respect Others
- Use appropriate language and communicate respectfully at all times.
- Respect the property and the creative work of others.
- Respect the rights of other people, ask for permission to record or post anything about them.
- Protect and respect the personal information of others.
- Use your time wisely when using technology for learning.
3. Respect this Place
- Maintain equipment so that it is ready to be used by others.
- In the school we use technology that supports learning and we do so in consultation with school staff
- Report any problems with technology equipment as soon as you see them.
Violation of the Calgary Board of Education and Connaught School Policy
If you do not follow this policy it may result in one or more of the following consequences:
- Letter home
- Restriction or loss of computer privileges; and/or
- School-based disciplinary consequences
Depending on the severity of inappropriate use, consequences will be determined by staff and the administrative team. Parents/Guardians will be notified. This Admirable Use Policy complements a number of Calgary Board of Education Administrative Regulations, including: AR1062 -- Acceptable Use of Electronic Information Resources, AR6047 – Vandalism and Damage to School Property, AR6005 – Student Code of Conduct, and AR6006 – Progressive Student Discipline. https://cbe.ab.ca/about-us/policies-and-regulations/Pages/Administrative-Regulations.aspx
Digital Citizenship at the CBE
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.
Visit the CBE website to learn more about how we support students to develop online safety skills and be good digital citizens.
Personal Mobile Devices
Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.
Web Filtering & Social Media
Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
