The Opera & Be a Good Ancestor
Hello Connaught families,
This year, every class at Connaught School has been using themes from the book “Be a Good Ancestor” to guide their learning. The grade 4, 5 and 6 classes have been chosen to work with the Calgary Opera to create an opera! Isn’t that great?
We have been working with a librettist who has been coming to our school. A Librettist is someone who takes all of our ideas and puts them into words to create the opera. Our schools librettist is Meredith-Taylor-Parry. She is very talented and very nice and has been able to teach us so much about opera and what goes into creating the writing for the opera.
All students have been learning a lot from her, one question we have all been working on with her is, “What comes in your mind when you hear the word Ancestor?”
These are some of the response we got from interviewing the grade 4/5’s
1. People who take care of our mother earth.
2. Our great grandparents, who are really old.
3. Without ancestors, we won’t have experiences.
4. Without ancestors, won’t be here.
5. Everything we have, is because of ancestors.
6. My family
7. A person, typically one more remote than a grandparent, from whom one is descended.
Aren’t these brilliant ideas? We are using all of these to help us create our Connaught Opera!
Thank you. By Sana & Shubhra
