Halloween at Connaught!

Halloween came to Connaught today as staff and students dressed up to celebrate the holiday. Teachers masterfully linked learning to curriculum outcomes across subject areas. Students strengthened their fine motor skills by creating works of art and playing with playdough. Many spooky stories were written today. Students focused on adding sensory details when describing their settings or creating mood with their word choice. In math, students measured pumpkins while others designed haunted houses and then determined their area using math formulas. Grade 2/3 students had the opportunity to visit other teachers where they focused on an author study of Eric Carle. They create habitats, measured with caterpillars and created collage art.

Halloween club displayed their spooky haunted buildings along with their apple head dolls and other halloween creations. Thanks to Ms. McCuaig, Ms. Storey and their volunteers: Mrs. Clark and Ms. Leslie for running such a fun club.

For the past week students have been guessing the weight of the giant pumpkin from Ms. O’s dad. It weighed 52 pounds!!

We hope everyone has a spooky and safe Halloween evening.
