Volunteers

We love to have volunteers who are willing to help at school and on field trips.  If you would like to volunteer you require:

  1. A valid volunteer police clearance on file with Connaught School (valid for 5 years) – click here to see how to apply
  2. An Annual Volunteer Registration Form – must be signed every year. Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.

Walking trip notice

The CBE does not require parents to fill out a consent form for children to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school and where walking is the sole method of transportation.  This allows teachers to take advantage of places close to the school such as parks or libraries. The Walking Distance Trip Letter explains this in detail. You can find it on our website.

Food services

Connaught School is lucky to have access to several food programs that provide food for families in need. If you are struggling to provide food for your child please email their classroom teacher about accessing the programs below.   We always encourage students to eat all of the food from home first before having any school food. We do not serve any pork. If you do not want your child to eat any school food then please email their teacher.

  • Breakfast program –  If your child does not eat before coming to school and you would like your child to have breakfast at school (7:50-8:00) then please complete Connaught Breakfast Porgram – Fill out form. Breakfast program will begin Sept. 14 for those who sign up.
  • Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids provides sandwiches and snacks twice a week.  These are usually turkey or chicken. We provide these to students whose families have informed us they need a lunch or students who eat all of their lunch and are still hungry.
  • Meals on Wheels Hot Soup Program begins Sept. 15. On Tuesdays and Thursdays Meals on Wheels delivers hot soup to Connaught School.  Volunteers from Rotary Calgary Centennial help serve the soup.  All students are welcome to have soup if they choose. Soup is free.  If you would like your child NOT to have soup please email their classroom teacher and tell your child to say “no thank you” when offered.

Each day 1 kind of soup is offered. Soups that may be offered are: chicken noodle, chicken with rice, chicken vegetable, vegetable, beef noodle, beef with rice and beef barley.

  • Noon Supervision: All students (Grades 1-6) who stay at school over lunchtime are supervised by lunch supervisors.  There is a fee to stay at school over lunch. This is charged through your mycbe.  If you do not want to pay this fee then you are required to pick your child up everyday at lunch and bring them back after lunch.

Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy

Students are expected to keep their cell phones in their locker at all times of the school day. You can check out documentation on this policy HERE, which includes school measures for violation.

Administrative Regulations
I would like to highlight two CBE Administrative Regulations of note: AR 6031 - Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning and Work Environments and AR 6006 – Progressive Student Discipline. Please feel free to review at your convenience.
